Southern Ocean.
Remarks:
The Thornfishes, also known as the Temperate Icefishes, are a family of fishes occurring in marine waters off of southern Australia, New Zealand and southern South America. Some members of this family also occur in freshwater habitats in southern Australia and Tasmania.
Thornfishes have short snouts and protractile mouths with teeth on the vomer and palatine. The gill membranes project forward and are unattached to the isthmus. Thornfishes have one lateral line and a spinous dorsal fin is always present.
This family includes 3 genera and about 11 species.
